I geni che codificano per l’HLA sono stati considerati come possibili marcatori della parodontite, in quanto coinvolti nella regolazione delle risposte immunitarie; diversi studi hanno valutato questa associazione e, nonostante i risultati non conclusivi, gli antigeni HLA-A9 e -B15 sono stati più comunemente associati a un’elevata suscettibilità alla AP, mentre gli antigeni HLA-A2 e -B5 sono stati considerati protettivi. L’etnia è una variabile importante da considerare quando si valuta la suscettibilità alla malattia. Lo scopo del presente studio è di: 1) valutare l’associazione di HLA-B15 e HLA-B5 con l’AP e 2) proporre alcune ipotesi fisiopatologiche per cercare di spiegare il ruolo della molecola HLA nella patogenesi dell’AP.
