O alumínio reciclado é obtido a partir de resíduos de alumínio pelas fundições. Estes resíduos provêm de peças obsoletas: chapas metálicas antigas, latas, utensílios de cozinha, e especialmente da destruição de destroços de automóveis. No Burkina Faso, as fundições artesanais utilizam o alumínio recuperado para fazer utensílios de cozinha e ferramentas para diversas utilizações, utilizando métodos que induzem impurezas durante o processo de fabrico, nomeadamente metais que podem ser tóxicos. O objectivo principal deste trabalho é analisar esta prática artesanal de fundição no Burkina Faso para uma melhor compreensão deste método de fabrico, e depois detectar a presença real (ou o excesso de conteúdo) destas impurezas nos objectos fabricados. O objectivo é estudar os métodos que permitiriam aos artesãos respeitar uma certa dosagem de aditivos que garantiriam a segurança alimentar e um melhor fabrico de utensílios e ferramentas de cozinha para várias utilizações através de fundição.
