El trabajo aborda la producción arquitectónica en la ciudad de Quilmes a partir de la habilitación del ferrocarril y la cons-trucción de la gran fábrica que generaron la radicación de inmigrantes británicos, suizos y alemanes que construyeronviviendas, escuelas, iglesias y clubes concentrándose en el cuadrante noreste del ejido fundacional. La arquitectura pintoresca hizo de la aldea campo de la puesta en escena de corrientes hegemónicas europeas que impulsaron la importación de insumos y contribuyeron al desarrollo de las técnicas y capacitación de la mano de obra nacional. Los revivals insulares dieron lugar a un sector urbano inspirado en las ideas de la ciudad jardín en contraste con la arquitectura “neo-ilalianizante” que caracterizaba al centro administrativo y comercial.La producción local británica de Walter Bassett Smith, la germana a German Zündt y la de ascendencia norte americana a Elmer Willis conformaron un escenario urbano a partir de la cual operaron las generaciones de los 70’ y los 80’ que procuraron una síntesis entre modernidad y tradición.
