Lo scopo dello studio presentato in questo libro è stato quello di prevedere la qualità complessiva delle acque sotterranee di Harare attraverso la determinazione dell’indice di qualità delle acque sotterranee (GWQI) per i punti di estrazione delle acque sotterranee campionate (pozzi) e la successiva interpolazione geostatistica per l’intera città di Harare, al fine di accertare la sua idoneità a scopi potabili. Sono stati raccolti 44 campioni di acque sotterranee e analizzati per 12 parametri fisiochimici. Utilizzando i parametri misurati per ogni sito campionato è stato calcolato il valore GWQI per ogni sito. È stato utilizzato il kriging ordinario per interpolare i valori GWQI, ottenendo una mappa della qualità delle acque sotterranee per la città di Harare. I risultati mostrano che la qualità delle acque sotterranee più scadente è stata prevista nelle zone occidentali, sud-occidentali e settentrionali di Harare, che comprendono sobborghi come Marlborough, Northwood, Avonlea, Ashbrittle, Budiriro, Glenview, Glenorah, Aspindale, Crowborough e Kambuzuma. È necessario analizzare periodicamente la qualità delle acque sotterranee per poter attuare misure di mitigazione.
