Mary Jane Miller has given words for us to cry out and reflect, in unison or alone, with gratitude, repentance, compassion, and guidance for Mother Earth’s preservation. The ancient traditions for prayer and contemplation have been passed from generation to generation and are still of grave importance today. Prayers for the Earth are recitations of love and reflection, they can be said alone or in a group. They are powerful, they nurture the soul, fuel the heart, and uplift the spirit. We often focus on human needs: the sick, isolated, aged, imprisoned, and those in peril. Adding our devotion and respect for God’s plan revealed on Earth may be prudent. Our contemporary society needs to allow us to pause long enough to appreciate our delicate, at times imperceptible relationship with Mother Earth. Planet Earth is listening, her natural order is stressed, she sees our human dilemma, and she is calling us to pay attention.'There is much to be done and even more to readjust. Like many people, I feel overwhelmed by the ecological crisis that continues to mount around the globe. Feelings of helplessness orhopelessness are expected as we reflect on the enormity of what is corrupted, hurting, and already lost. What can any one person do to bring about change? I believe that prayer is aprudent place to begin. A few minutes of reflection every day can shift our understanding of our purpose and begin a dialogue of prayers for the climate crisis we are in. Our minds and hearts are voluminous organs that receive the in-pouring of mystical understanding. I believe that through the time-tested methods of prayer, contemplation, and meditation, we can clear our minds and deepen our connections to each other and the world we live in. I hope that this book, Prayers for Mother Earth: Gratitude, Compassion, Repentance, and Guidance, will be a guide that brings our wants and desires into alignment with the marvelous energy that has designed Creation. Prayers for Planet Earth or prayers for Mother Earth matter little. The intention to dialogue of Prayers for the climate is a good practice. Mary Jane Miller’s books on climate disaster and her prayer books on climate crisis are a great place to begin.
