Foram investigadas algumas rochas do Proterozoico Superior (serpentinitos, metagabros-dioritos e granodioritos) da área de Homrit Waggat, no Deserto Central Oriental do Egito. Foram realizados parâmetros geológicos, petrográficos e petroquímicos para lançar alguma luz sobre a discussão da origem e evolução tectónica destas rochas. Os dados petrográficos e geoquímicos confirmam que os serpentinitos foram derivados de peridotitos do tipo alpino (harzburgite) e de rochas-mãe ultramáficas duníticas nos ofiolitos da Zona de Subducção Supra (SSZ), que estão associados a tholeiites do fundo do oceano. Os serpentinitos são semelhantes aos ophiolitos pan-africanos Bac-Arc no nordeste e leste de África. Enquanto que o metagabro-diorito e o granodiorito exibem uma afinidade calcária-alcalina e estão agrupados num ambiente de arco insular.
