A perturbação bipolar de ciclo rápido (BPR) é uma forma particularmente grave da doença. É uma entidade que tem sido pouco identificada na literatura. O perfil dos doentes com esta especificação clínica está mal definido e as opções de tratamento são pouco codificadas. O objetivo do nosso trabalho foi avaliar de forma descritiva as características sociodemográficas, clínicas e terapêuticas dos doentes com TIRC e compará-las com as de outros doentes com doença bipolar.Realizámos um estudo transversal retrospetivo, descritivo e comparativo de doentes internados e divididos em dois grupos: doentes com ciclos rápidos e doentes sem ciclos rápidos (TBNCR).A identificação dos doentes em risco de desenvolver ciclos rápidos e a prevenção do seu aparecimento requer o conhecimento das características associadas e a adoção de uma abordagem bio-psico-social com vista a otimizar o tratamento e a reinserção sócio-profissional.
