A falta de professores qualificados é um problema crítico no sector do ensino e formação técnicos e profissionais (EFTP). Este estudo investiga os obstáculos que impedem a preparação de professores competentes no sector do EFTP na Etiópia. Foi utilizado como fonte de dados um estudo de caso qualitativo que envolveu 20 formadores de professores seleccionados propositadamente. O estudo revelou numerosos desafios, incluindo fracos critérios de admissão de estudantes, falta de normas de competência dos professores, currículo irrelevante, formação centrada na teoria, recursos limitados, um sistema de garantia de qualidade ineficaz, questões de liderança, lacunas nas competências práticas e pedagógicas dos formadores de professores, experiência no sector, interesse e motivação. O estudo concluiu que existem várias limitações críticas para atrair candidatos de alta qualidade e motivados, estabelecer normas de competência, adaptar o currículo para satisfazer as necessidades específicas dos professores de EFTP, envolver as indústrias no processo de formação e melhorar as competências dos formadores de professores através de colocações na indústria.
