Recentemente, o Tribulus terrestris (Tt) tem atraído um interesse crescente devido ao seu potencial farmacológico, incluindo as suas actividades neuroprotectoras. Neste estudo, exploramos os efeitos neuroprotectores de um extrato de Tt num modelo de peixe-zebra (Danio rerio) de perturbação da memória induzida por escopolamina (SCOP) e stress oxidativo cerebral. A SCOP, um fármaco anticolinérgico, tem sido utilizada para reproduzir aspectos fundamentais da doença de Alzheimer (DA) em modelos animais. Os peixes foram tratados com extrato etanólico de folhas (ELE) de Tt (1, 3 e 6 mg/L) durante 15 dias. As interacções moleculares dos principais compostos identificados através de UPLC-PDA/MS nas fracções de Tt com o local ativo da acetilcolinesterase (AChE) foram exploradas através de análises de docagem molecular. A terrestrosina C, a protodioscina, a rutina e a saponina C apresentaram a ligação mais estável. O desempenho da memória espacial foi avaliado utilizando o teste do labirinto em Y e o reconhecimento da memória foi avaliado utilizando o teste NOR.
