O mercado dos refrigerantes é um dos mais competitivos da indústria alimentar dos Camarões. Durante muito tempo, existiu um duopólio entre a Boissons du Cameroun e a Union des Brasseries du Cameroun, mas o sector tem vindo a expandir-se há mais de uma década com a chegada de novos intervenientes, o que significa uma grande variedade de ofertas em termos de sabores e um investimento significativo em marketing. Confrontadas com uma forte concorrência, estas marcas competem exclusivamente com base no preço, na embalagem e no lançamento de sabores que, na sua maioria, já existem no mercado. As abordagens de marketing desenvolvidas por estas marcas ao longo de quase duas décadas, baseadas essencialmente em promoções, não permitem que os consumidores façam escolhas baseadas em vantagens competitivas conhecidas ou em relações emocionais duradouras com elas. O objetivo desta investigação foi identificar as consequências da ausência de abordagens disruptivas e inovadoras para uma marca como a Spécial Drinks num sector tão saturado.
