O papel dos aprendentes no processo de aprendizagem é inegável. Os alunos com crenças positivas sobre a aprendizagem de línguas estrangeiras (EFL) tendem a ter uma motivação mais forte, uma atitude favorável, utilizam mais estratégias, são menos ansiosos e têm melhores resultados linguísticos. É importante ter consciência dos factores que afectam a tendência dos alunos para aprender. Compreender os conhecimentos dos alunos sobre a aprendizagem de línguas é fundamental para reconhecer as estratégias dos alunos e conceber uma pedagogia linguística adequada. O trabalho apresentado neste artigo relata um estudo das crenças dos estudantes de EAP na Universidade Azad de Najaf Abad. A questão em causa é determinar se as crenças dos alunos de inglês sobre a aprendizagem de inglês estão relacionadas com factores contextuais ou com o seu desenvolvimento meta-cognitivo.
