Das Lesen von Noten ist keine wesentliche Fähigkeit, um Musik zu machen oder ein Musiker zu sein, und es ist auch keine komplexe Aufgabe. Es ist jedoch eine wertvolle Tätigkeit, da es die musikalische Autonomie des Einzelnen fördert und in bestimmten Kontexten der Musikausbildung und des Musizierens eine erforderliche Fähigkeit darstellt. Musiker weisen unterschiedliche Niveaus dieser Fähigkeit auf, vor allem beim Vom-Blatt-Lesen. Die Fähigkeit, den Rhythmus zu lesen, ist eine der grundlegenden Fähigkeiten für das Erlernen des Notenlesens. In dieser Untersuchung mit Grundschullehrern wurde die O-Passo-Methode zum Erlernen des Rhythmuslesens eingesetzt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Methode das rhythmische Lesen wirksam fördert und die Teilnehmer motiviert, Noten zu lesen und ihren Schülern das Lesen beizubringen. In diesem Buch werden auch die Themen Musiklesen (Rhythmus- und Notenlesen), die O-Passo-Methode und Motivation behandelt.
