ВОЗ описывает его какВОЗ называет его 'самой крупной и быстрорастущей неинфекционной эпидемией в мире', затрагивающей все страны и социально-экономические группы, и одной из самых серьезных проблем общественного здравоохранения 21 века, которая выходит из-под контроля.Это сложная патология, что связано с ее многочисленными и неоднородными детерминантами, включающими немодулируемые генетические и эпигенетические факторы и модулируемые факторы, связанные с воздействием окружающей среды, способствующей ожирению.Ожирение у детей является серьезной проблемой из-за его пагубных мультисистемных последствий, которые могут проявиться в раннем детстве или подростковом возрасте, а также из-за высокого риска его сохранения во взрослой жизни, что приведет к высокой заболеваемости и смертности. Профилактика ожирения должна стать главным направлением борьбы с этой многогранной эпидемией посредством реализации программ здравоохранения на нескольких уровнях действий.
