В данной работе рассматриваются практические вопросы, связанные с сохранением архитектурного наследия в Индии. Для изучения роли ASI (Археологическая служба Индии, государственное агентство) и INTACH (частное агентство) в диссертации анализируются их мандаты/правовые рамки, определяющие объем работ для соответствующих агентств. Проект по сохранению форта Джайсалмер рассматривается с целью изучения практических, социальных и юридических вопросов, связанных с этой практикой. Анализируется работа, проделанная обоими агентствами. ASI и INTACH сталкиваются с проблемами правоприменения и поэтому пытаются обновить свою административную систему.Оба эти агентства являются крупными организациями в своих областях (государственными и негосударственными), работающими по всей стране над сохранением ресурсов наследия. В данной диссертации предпринята попытка выяснить, на каком этапе находится практика сохранения наследия в настоящее время и какие возможности открываются в будущем в связи с недавними значительными изменениями в методологии их работы.
