O desempenho dos sistemas de troca de calor pode ser melhorado por nanofluidos. O uso de nanofluidos eficientes resulta na redução do consumo de energia. Geralmente, refrigerantes, água, óleo de motor, etilenoglicol, etc. são utilizados em muitas aplicações industriais como fluidos convencionais de transferência de calor. O controle sobre a remoção de calor é o principal desafio em alguns sistemas de alto fluxo de calor como fissão nuclear, fusão, sistemas mecânicos micro/nanoeletrônicos. Os recentes avanços na nanotecnologia tornaram possível a produção de nanofluidos de alta estabilidade. Os nanofluidos apresentam propriedades térmicas superiores às dos fluidos convencionais.
