Turton Tower has stood near the Lancashire village of Chapeltown for over five hundred years. During that time its presence has spawned numerous tales of a mysterious nature. Included in the catalogue of strange happenings, is an unexplained fire that caused damage to two of the rooms. At another time an office light was seen to be switching on and then off, when the building was known to be locked for the night. There have been reports of ghostly sightings that include men, women and even dogs. The Tower’s history is linked with that of two other historic buildings, which are Bradshaw Hall and Timberbottom Farm. When the two buildings were demolished, many of their antiquities were donated to the Turton Tower’s Museum. One of which is a baby’s cradle, that is said to ’rock’ independently at the midnight hour. There are also the remnants of two human skulls that have a long history of poltergeist activity. The author of the book titled, Mysterious Tales From Turton Tower, has painstakingly collected the various tales and combined them into a singular narrative.
