By 1942, their war against him was faltering due toItalian victories across the Mediterranean Sea and North Africa. Later that year, however, enemy cryptanalysts broke the Axis code, enabling them to read every secret order before it could be carried out. Supply convoys to the Libyan Desert were destroyed, stranding Mussolini’s troops without ammunition, fuel, food or water. The tide of battle had irrevocably turned against Italy. But how she went down fighting to the last is one of the greatest though unknown sagas in human history.
