Pierwsze miasta na Półwyspie Koreańskim powstały ponad tysiąc lat temu. Niniejsza publikacja analizuje rozwój miast i systemu osadnictwa miejskiego Republiki Korei po zakończeniu koreańskiej wojny domowej w 1953 r. Wynika to z dramatycznych zmian w krajobrazie społecznym i gospodarczym kraju w późniejszym okresie. W tym okresie południowokoreańskie miasta przekształciły się z małych osad w wielkie zurbanizowane aglomeracje i stały się integralną częścią globalnej gospodarki. W tym samym czasie stolica kraju ugruntowała swoją pozycję miasta światowego. System rozliczeń w kraju przeszedł ogromne zmiany. Dzięki aktywnemu rozwojowi przemysłu uległa ona przekształceniu, a jej funkcje stały się bardziej złożone. Niniejsza publikacja poświęcona jest badaniu ekonomicznych i geograficznych cech rozwoju miast i systemu osadnictwa miejskiego Republiki Korei.
