Este livro é o resultado de uma pesquisa bibliográfica que buscou discutir o papel do psicólogo no desenvolvimento de ações de matriciamento na atenção primária de saúde envolvendo serviços de saúde mental. Tem como objetivos discorrer sobre o surgimento do Sistema Único de Saúde, compreender a implantação dos Programas de Saúde da Família, analisar a articulação da atenção primária com os serviços substitutivos em saúde mental, compreender o que é o matriciamento em saúde mental: suas propostas e desafios e, por fim, descrever o papel do psicólogo no desenvolvimento de ações de matriciamento em saúde mental na atenção primária de saúde. Como resultado observa-se que muitas são as dificuldades na implantação do modelo de apoio matricial nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde, mas tal modelo pode ser uma ferramenta de potencial desenvolvimento de ações que contribuam na promoção de saúde e principalmente na reinserção da pessoa com sofrimento mental no contexto da comunidade; e aqui o psicólogo muito tem a oferecer, sendo necessária uma formação adequada desse profissional, voltada para as políticas públicas e para esse novo modo de produzir saúde.
