Il disturbo dello spettro autistico (ASD) è un disturbo cronico del neurosviluppo che influisce sul modo in cui una persona si relaziona con l’ambiente e le persone che la circondano. La capacità di costruire relazioni con gli altri è compromessa, così come la capacità di comprendere i sentimenti altrui. Le persone con ASD manifestano la classica triade di deficit (Wing, 1988) nella socializzazione, nella comunicazione e nell’immaginazione, che comprende l’inflessibilità cognitiva e comportamentale, e quindi influisce sul modo in cui elaborano le informazioni e vedono il mondo (Jordan, 1997). L’obiettivo principale di questo capitolo è l’immaginazione, in particolare il modo in cui la condizione di ASD la compromette o il modo in cui la compromissione dell’immaginazione di una persona con ASD influisce sulla sua creatività e sulla sua funzionalità cognitiva. Per comprendere l’immaginazione, i due assi chiave - (i) lo spettro dell’immaginazione e (ii) i tipi di immaginazione - saranno esplorati ed esaminati nel contesto della psicologia cognitiva e delle neuroscienze.
