Dans le centre-nord de Bahia, dans la microrégion de Senhor do Bonfim-Ba, à 414 km de la capitale Salvador, couvrant une partie de la municipalité de Pindobaçu, la pratique du travail minier de Carnaíba a commencé dans les années 1960, la localité a des caractéristiques géologiques avec des séquences métasédimentaires de granites et de roches ultramafiques, qui est mis en évidence dans la production d’émeraude et depuis cette période, l’extraction minérale est devenu d’une grande importance pour la population locale, car il génère des revenus pour l’économie de la région dans laquelle il est inséré. Dans ce contexte, la recherche visait à analyser le panorama environnemental et sa corrélation avec l’extractivisme minéral. Il a été constaté qu’un plan de gestion est nécessaire pour la municipalité, ainsi que l’adoption de pratiques de sécurité au travail, l’amélioration des conditions de travail sous terre et un programme de santé spécialisé pour les mineurs. L’étude a cherché à renforcer le développement local pour une coexistence avec l’extractivisme minéral en harmonie avec l’environnement.
