'El amor del hombre es de la vida del hombre una cosa aparte, ’Es la existencia entera de la mujer'. Byron Sí, el amor es toda la vida de una mujer. Algunas mujeres modernas podrían objetar esto. Podrían decir que esto era cierto para la mujer del pasado, que estaba excluida de todas las demás vías de la actividad humana. La mujer de hoy tiene otros intereses además del amor. Pero yo sostengo que esto sólo es cierto en un pequeño porcentaje de mujeres; y aun en esta pequeña minoría de mujeres, las actividades sociales, científicas y artísticas no pueden ocupar el lugar del amor; por muy ocupadas y exitosas que estas mujeres puedan estar, ellas os dirán si gozáis de su confianza que son infelices, si su vida amorosa es insatisfactoria. Nada, nada puede llenar el vacío provocado por la falta de amor. Las diversas actividades pueden ayudar a cubrir el vacío, a protegerla de ojos extraños, no pueden llenarlo. Porque esencialmente la mujer está hecha para el amor. No exclusivamente, sino esencialmente, y una mujer que no ha tenido amor en su vida ha sido un fracaso. Las pocas excepciones que pueden mencionarse no hacen sino subrayar la regla.
