'La invención de la cultura' es el primer libro de Roy Wagner que se traduce al español.Roy Wagner (1938-2018) se doctoró en antropología por la Universidad de Chicago bajo la dirección de David M. Schneider y fue profesor de la Universidad de Virginia durante los últimos cuarenta años. Su trabajo etnográfico entre los daribi de Nueva Guinea y los barok de Nueva Irlanda sirve de base a un extenso conjunto de publicaciones, entre las que se cuentan once libros sobre temas que van del parentesco a la mitología, el método etnográfico, el chamanismo, la bufonería y la ficción. 'La invención de la cultura', su trabajo más conocido, se ha convertido en un clásico de la antropología del siglo xx. En esta misma colección se publicará en breve otra obra de Wagner, 'Symbols that Stand for Themselves' (1986).
