The scientific monograph explores the heroic traditions and ideals of the Oghuz Turkic peoples of the period of creation of the stories included in the ’Book of my grandfather Korkud’, a famous monument of medieval Turkic culture. The author traces the historical background of events, customs and traditions of medieval Turkic culture behind the heroic images of the Oguz epos using numerous sources. The importance of the scientific tradition on the study of heroic epic, established in the works of V. M. Zhirmunsky, as paving the way for the study of monuments of epic creativity of Turkic peoples is emphasised.
