Die kieferorthopädische Zahnbewegung ist ein komplexer Prozess, der mit einer detaillierten Kenntnis der verschiedenen ihn beeinflussenden Faktoren durchgeführt werden muss, um eine optimale und notwendige Bewegung der Zähne bei der Behandlung verschiedener Arten von Zahnfehlstellungen zu erreichen. OTM kann schnell oder langsam erfolgen, je nach den physikalischen Eigenschaften der angewandten Kraft und der Größe und biologischen Reaktion des PDL (parodontales Ligament). Die kieferorthopädischen Kräfte können schwer oder leicht sein, was zu einer schnellen oder langsamen Zahnbewegung führt. Daher spielt die optimale kieferorthopädische Kraft eine wichtige Rolle für eine maximale Zahnbewegung bei minimaler Gewebeschädigung und Unannehmlichkeiten für den Patienten.
