En marzo de 1762, los mandos británicos de mar y tierra partieron del Reino Unido hacia Cuba con cuatro regimientos de infantería.Arribaron a la isla de Martinica, por entonces británica, a finales a abril, donde reunieron diecinueve navíos,dieciocho fragatas y diez mil soldados para la campaña cubana.La flota de invasión alcanzó Matanzas el 5 de junio.La resistencia fue tan feroz que se demoraron 2 meses en capturar La Habana
