Insurgent Mexico is a non-fiction book written by journalist John Reed in 1914. The book covers the Mexican Revolution, a period of political and social upheaval in Mexico that lasted from 1910 to 1920. Reed provides a firsthand account of the revolution, having traveled to Mexico to report on the events as they unfolded. The book is divided into three parts: the first covers the early stages of the revolution, including the overthrow of President Porfirio Diaz and the rise of Francisco Madero. The second part covers the period of conflict between Madero and his opponents, including the rebel leader Emiliano Zapata. The third part covers the fall of Madero and the rise of the revolutionary leader Venustiano Carranza.Throughout the book, Reed provides detailed descriptions of the battles, political maneuvering, and social changes that characterized the revolution. He also includes interviews with key figures in the conflict, including Zapata and Carranza, as well as ordinary Mexicans who were affected by the war.Insurgent Mexico is considered a classic work of journalism, and is notable for its vivid descriptions and first-person perspective. The book provides a valuable historical record of the Mexican Revolution, and is still widely read and studied today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
