India is encountering some serious problems of cultural dilemma and dislocation today than ever before. People are at loss of their culture, relationships, human values and their own identities. Shashi Tharoor’s works portray the theme of communal divide and cultural dilemma, India is severely facing today. He projects these things as a permanent human wretched condition of this country. People of different communities live disharmonious and full of conflicts in this country even though they have lived together for thousands of years. Identity crisis, communalism, alienation etc are some of the problems India is witnessing. Thus an attempt has been made to analyse and interpret Shashi Tharoor’s portrayal of India. The emphasis is laid on the argument that this country belongs to the people of all faiths living in this country since ages, and not only for one particular faith. The whole point of argument is that in this country no one can claim that he is a majority. Tharoor transcribes the song of modern India which is not an under developed country but an over developed country at the decaying stage.
