The author examined 2500 OCLC bibliographic records for monographs published in the languages of Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam in an effort to determine to what extent the cataloging was based on an examination of the book or a surrogate for the book, and whether or not the cataloger could read and understand the languages involved.
