In questo libro, le nanoparticelle di argento e ossido di zinco sono state sintetizzate in situ all’interno della rete di idrogel di gomma arabica/poli(acrilato) utilizzando rispettivamente approcci di riduzione e idrotermici. Le nanoparticelle metalliche sintetizzate sono state caratterizzate mediante risonanza plasmonica di superficie (SPR), analisi di diffrazione dei raggi X (XRD), spettroscopia infrarossa con trasformata di Fourier (FTIR), microscopia elettronica a trasmissione (TEM), analisi termogravimetrica (TGA) e microscopia elettronica a scansione (SEM). Il comportamento di assorbimento dell’acqua degli idrogel GA/poli(SA) caricati con Ag e ZnO è stato studiato in tampone fosfato salino (PBS) a pH 7,4 a 37 °C. I dati relativi all’assorbimento dell’acqua sono stati analizzati con l’ausilio di vari modelli cinetici. Infine, l’azione antimicrobica dei nanocompositi è stata studiata utilizzando E. coli come batterio modello.
