No entanto, os intelectuais de ambas as nações assumem as suas posições nacionalistas.Do mesmo modo, os activistas de ONG internacionais proclamam os seus pontos de vista, inflamando a opinião pública de ambos os países. É necessário identificar até que ponto o problema é ético-político, afirmando que os Estados têm o direito de existir, uma vez que, na questão dominicano-haitiana, devemos respeitar o direito de existir de ambas as nações como Estado, sem implicar a não existência do outro, respeitando o Direito Internacional e procurando a confiança mútua através do diálogo diplomático e intercultural.
