Durante los últimos veinte años la literatura etnográfica ha reportado distintas formas de comprender, crear y experimentar la temporalidad y la historia en el continente americano. Para los Piro de la Amazonía peruana, el parentesco es su historia; para los Achuar de Ecuador, el olvido; para los Yoremem o Yaquis del noroeste mexicano, la ritualidad; para las poblaciones hispanas de Nuevo México, las danzas.A partir de ello, esta obra propone acercarse a las historias amerindias contemporáneas desde perspectivas y lugares antes no imaginados, con el fin de provocar encuentros inesperados. Su premisa es que aún es posible aprender de otras personas sobre la historia, para crear relaciones que no pasen por la descalificación, la negación, la expulsión y el historicidio. La simetrización y la proliferación de las historias amerindias requiere multiplicar y diversificar los parámetros de “lo histórico” y estar dispuestos a ser afectados por esas otras historias.Al cartografiar distintas temporalidades e historicidades y dar cuenta de las disputas entre distintas historias, los oficios académicos deberían ser impactados, afectados y modificados por otros saberes y otras pragmáticas, por otros proyectos de existencia, por otras formas de registro y de construcción del pasado, de vinculaciones alternas entre el pasado y el presente. Como insistía Bertolt Bretch: “En tiempos de desorden sangriento, de confusión organizada, de arbitrariedad consciente, de humanidad deshumanizada, nada debe parecer natural, nada debe parecer imposible de cambiar”.
