Ein geografisches Informationssystem (GIS) ist ein System zur Beschreibung und Kategorisierung der Erde und anderer geografischer Gebiete mit dem Ziel, die betreffenden Informationen räumlich darzustellen und zu analysieren. Durch seine Verwendung wurde ein fortschrittliches konzeptionelles Modell erstellt, das die geotechnischen oder geologischen Probleme des Bodens aufzeigt, mit dem Vorstudien für Arbeiten wie Anpassungen, Erweiterungen und/oder Ersetzungen von Wasserleitungen und Abwassersystemen sowie andere technische Arbeiten durchgeführt werden können.Die geotechnische Zonierung der Böden in Valledupar (Cesar) wurde durch die Erhebung von Daten in verschiedenen Bodenlabors und die Entnahme von Proben durchgeführt. Die Datenbank für die Recherche wurde erstellt. Die gefundenen Bodentypen waren SC, SM und GW, die in allen Gemeinden der Stadt identifiziert wurden. Der Grundwasserspiegel wurde in einer Tiefe von 1,2 m festgestellt.Das Buch enthält die notwendigen Informationen für die geotechnischen Studien des Gebiets, in denen festgestellt wird, dass die Stadt Gebäudefundamente von mehr als 10 Ebenen tragen kann; in Gebieten mit hohem Kiesanteil werden diese Gebiete am günstigsten für den Bau sein.
