Honig ist eine natürliche Süßsubstanz und wird von Honigbienen aus dem Nektar von Blüten, aus Sekreten lebender Pflanzenteile, hergestellt. In der vorliegenden Studie wurden die Gehalte einiger ausgewählter Spurenelemente und essenzieller Elemente (Cu, Co, Mn und Zn) in Honigproben aus ausgewählten Woredas der Sidama-Zone (d. h. Aroresa, Bensa, Chire, Arbegona und Hula Woredas), Südregion, Äthiopien, analysiert. Bekannte Mengen (1 g) von Honigproben wurden in einem Mikrowellen-Aufschlussgerät mit 5 ml HNO3 und 2 ml H2O2 aufgeschlossen. Die Gültigkeit des Aufschlussverfahrens wurde überprüft, indem die Proben mit einem Standard bekannter Konzentration der Analytmetallmischungslösungen versetzt und die prozentuale Wiederfindung bestimmt wurde. Der Gehalt der Mineralien in den Aufschlüssen wurde mit einem Flammenatomabsorptionsspektrometer (FAAS) analysiert. Die folgenden Konzentrationsbereiche (mg/kg) wurden in Honig gefunden: Cu (0,027-0,0696), Mn (0,0693-0,815) und Zn (0,0620-0,3359). Co wurde nicht in allen Honigproben nachgewiesen. Die Konzentration von Mn war in den fünf Honigproben am höchsten, gefolgt von Zn und Cu (d. h. Mn>Zn>Cu). Die Konzentration jedes Metalls (d. h. Cu, Mn, Zn) ist im Honig aus Hula Woreda am höchsten und im Honig aus Aroresa Woreda am niedrigsten.
