L’obiettivo del presente studio è stato quello di sviluppare perle fluttuanti di alginato di propranololo cloridrato per uso orale con l’obiettivo di trattare l’ipertensione. Il propranololo viene trattenuto nello stomaco per un periodo di tempo prolungato. Il farmaco è stabile e facilmente assorbibile in ambiente acido. La sua emivita di eliminazione è di circa 3-6 ore e la sua biodisponibilità è fino al 25%. Tra i vari approcci per ottenere un tempo di ritenzione gastrica, il sistema di somministrazione di farmaci galleggianti è uno di quelli selezionati per prolungare il comportamento di galleggiamento delle microsfere di alginato. A questo scopo è stato utilizzato l’alginato di sodio come agente formatore di matrice, l’olio minerale come agente di galleggiamento e polimeri idrofili rigonfiabili come HPMC K100, Eudragit S-100, Agar, Amido e SSG come ingredienti chiave per raggiungere l’obiettivo.
