The creator, redeemer God, in His complete Word, has declared the future of His Kingdom and rule, established by His will and power. God governs history, sustaining all things by His providence and power. The triune, sovereign Lord is the one in whom the Christian trusts.  Bereft of such security, the non-believer must posit an entirely different worldview: Utopianism. This gospel-denying religious philosophy begins with the anarchistic rejection of God and proceeds to a re-making of man as god incarnate through the Parliament of Man, a world-state. This Nebuchadnezzar-sized idol lays claim to all the attributes of the God it has sought to supplant.  In the face of this, the Christian must not yield, for the world of the future shall be God’s world, and man in that world shall be what God intends him to be.

  • For Reformational Thinking
    Joseph Boot
For several generations, Christians have bought into a worldview that radically separates the realms of natural and supernatural. But this is not a biblical way of seeing the world, and such a view leads to unwanted, unorthodox, and even pagan conclusions: locating the root of sin in the physical, created world; a belief in the supremacy of human reason; an empirical, value-neu...

The urge to seek out meaning and purpose in life is part of the human condition; there is a universal longing to make sense of the world. In our present cultural moment in the West, people have been hindered in this pursuit by a spiritual malaise, obfuscating truth like a thick fog obscures a mountain path. We feel the need as acutely as ever, but modern culture tells us meanin...

The unique spheres of family, state, academy, business etc., are not the church, nor are they subordinate parts of the church. Critically however, this does not mean they are not to be Christian - transformed and shaped by the gospel, the Word of God and Lordship of Christ. It only means they are not required to be under church control. When it comes to political life and socie...

  • Why I Still Believe
    Joseph Boot
Apologetics has often been treated as a ’tool’ in the service of evangelism, one that can be picked up or put down as the occasion requires. I believe this characterization is mistaken. Asking 'when should I use apologetics?' is often depicted as a question akin to 'when should I use a hammer?' I believe a better analogy is 'when should I use my hands?' For most of us, hammerin...

Rather, all of life is religion, and it is me...

  • For the Hope that is In You
    Joseph Boot
The apostle Peter wrote that God’s people need to always be ready to make a defense “to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” Christians have responded in several ways to this “apologetic mandate,” but what is the most biblically faithful approach? How do we present the Christian story in a culture that denies any overarching story or purpose to the wor...
