Orthodontic mini-screw is a boon both to patient and the orthodontist. Nowadays, extra-alveolar mini-screws have gained increasing popularity to overcome the shortcomings of conventional inter-radicular mini-screws. These are the mini-screws which are placed in extra-alveolar sites like infra-zygomatic region, buccal shelf area and palatal regions. They offer the orthodontist to treat complex malocclusion with elaborate tooth movements like en-masse distalization, expansion, mesialization, intrusion etc, also with an added advantage of preventing root damage. The apt use of these extra alveolar mini-screws aids the borderline surgical cases to be treated non-surgically.
