Os avanços tecnológicos alcançados nos últimos anos permitiram um grande progresso na terapia endodôntica. A introdução das ligas de níquel-titânio e a automatização da instrumentação endodôntica foram um grande avanço, quebrando o paradigma de quase 200 anos de instrumentação puramente manual. No entanto, a prática da instrumentação dos canais radiculares tem permanecido em constante evolução, seja pelo desenvolvimento de novos instrumentos com diferentes desenhos, seja pelos novos avanços nos tratamentos com ligas de níquel-titânio, buscando continuamente a obtenção de sistemas mais resistentes e flexíveis. O objetivo deste livro é apresentar e discutir as características das ligas de Ni-Ti utilizadas nos principais sistemas de instrumentação disponíveis no mercado, bem como a influência das propriedades metalúrgicas e mecânicas dos instrumentos de Ni-Ti e dos movimentos que os acionam, para possibilitar um planejamento mais preciso e previsível do preparo do canal radicular.
