Un análisis de los cambios actuales y futuros de la temperatura del aire y la precipitación para los escenarios RCP2.6 y RCP8.5, se realizaron en este estudio. En general, la tendencia lineal de las temperaturas extremas para el periodo 1961-2010 revelan un aumento de la temperatura en el territorio chileno, sin embargo, este aumento estaría forzado por la Oscilación Decadal del Pacífico. Un análisis más detallado revela una disminución de la temperatura en las estaciones costeras de las regiones norte y central de Chile, así como un aumento en el interior de las mismas regiones. Por otra parte, para fines del siglo 21 se espera un aumento de la temperatura del aire a lo largo del país de entre 2º y 5 ºC. En cuanto al régimen pluviométrico, hay un ligero aumento en la región central durante el último tercio del siglo 20, pero luego una significativa disminución en el presente siglo. Para la región norte y austral la precipitación muestra un ligero aumento. Las proyecciones para mediados y fines del siglo 21 indican disminución de 20% hasta un 50% en la zona central y sur principalmente y un aumento de alrededor de un 20% en la región del extremo austral del país.
