Das Buch untersucht die Auswirkungen negativer ethnischer Zugehörigkeit auf den Zusammenhalt und die Integration von Schülern in außerschulischen Aktivitäten an Sekundarschulen in ausgewählten Bezirken, in denen die ethnische Gewalt besonders stark war. Das Buch hebt die Herausforderungen hervor, die negative ethnische Zugehörigkeit in kenianischen Schulen mit sich bringt, und empfiehlt die Ausbildung von Lehrern zu nationalen Werten wie Patriotismus, Einheit, Frieden, Liebe und guter Staatsbürgerschaft, wie sie in der kenianischen Verfassung von 2010 festgeschrieben sind. Die wichtigste Lehre aus diesem Buch ist die dringende Notwendigkeit, eine Strategie für die Formulierung einer nationalen Integrationspolitik durch die Nationale Kommission für Zusammenhalt und Integration zu entwickeln und sicherzustellen, dass die staatsbürgerliche Erziehung landesweit durchgeführt wird.
