Writing songs based upon my poetry presented me withthe similar excitement I felt when writing shortscreenplays based upon my short stories. Crossing genresfrom written to audio/visual helped me to discover somuch more between the lines that I did not realize in theprevious iteration.Besides the technical aspects of form and function, Idiscovered the differences in pacing, intensity, andurgency. With songwriting, beat, tempo, rhythm, rhyme, chords, keys, so many aspects demanded extra attention.Outside my comfort zone, I relied upon several referencemanuals to create... possibilities. While I did record demos of these works to use as a guide,I am not a singer by profession. My default setting iswriter, not performer. Therefore, I present to you theseeker, the speaker, the singer, the performer, thesemessages from the first half of my life. I wish you well inyour interpretation.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
