A sexualidade dos doentes com esquizofrenia (SCZ) caracteriza-se por uma elevada prevalência de disfunções sexuais (DS). Estas têm repercussões negativas no curso da doença, contribuem para a deterioração da qualidade de vida (QdV) dos doentes e contribuem para a manutenção de pensamentos de auto-estigmatização e, consequentemente, dificuldades de integração na vida social. Os objectivos deste estudo foram avaliar os SD, a QdV e o estigma internalizado numa população de doentes com SCZ, identificar os factores clínicos e terapêuticos associados aos SD e determinar as relações entre estes e a QdV e o estigma internalizado. A prevalência de SD foi de 67,9%. Os factores correlacionados com a SD foram pontuações PANSS ’negativas’ elevadas (p=0,006), pontuações PANSS ’totais’ elevadas (p=0,04), tratamento APC (p=0,027), QVRS prejudicada (p=0,045) e níveis elevados de estigma internalizado (p=0,011). O nosso estudo sublinha a importância do impacto da SD no prognóstico da doença através do estigma internalizado e da deterioração da QVRS.
