La pesca artesanal en Colombia ha sido un campo poco estudiado por la antropología y las ciencias sociales nacionales, con la excepción de la obra de corte sociológico de Orlando  Fals Borda: Historia doble de la Costa (1979). Entre el agua y la tierra es un estudio sobre las comunidades de pescadores y pescadoras de los municipios de Santa Bárbara de Pinto y Plato, en la Depresión Momposina, en tanto sujetos políticos, sociales y culturales de importancia constitucional, los cuales configuran sus modos de vida e identidad en relación íntima con el agua, los humedales y el río. El libro es producto de un ejercicio etnográfico realizado con la Fundación Alma, en el año 2016, en el marco de la investigación Diagnóstico de la vida de los pescadores artesanales de la planicie inundable de los ríos Magdalena y Cauca (Bajo Magdalena), que se propuso, a través de las oralidades, cotidianidades y conocimientos locales, comprender las realidades y modos de vida de las comunidades de pescadores de esta área de la región Caribe de Colombia.. 10
