L’objectif était de déterminer l’empreinte hydrique des grains de blé et des pois chiches blancs produits à Cajeme Sonora, pour lesquels des modèles mathématiques ont été développés afin de déterminer l’efficacité et la productivité de l’eau dans les deux cultures. Il a été établi qu’un total de 1 056 L kg-1 de blé et de 1 621 L kg-1 de pois chiche blanc ont été utilisés. Les indicateurs de productivité physique étaient de 0,947 kg m-3 de blé par mètre cube et de 0,617 kg m-3 de pois chiche blanc. En termes économiques, un total de 115,63 m3 d’eau a été utilisé dans le blé pour générer 1 dollar de perte, et dans le pois chiche, un total de 6,84 m3 par dollar de gain a été utilisé. Les emplois générés par hectomètre cube d’eau utilisé pour l’irrigation étaient de 0,56 emploi hm3 pour le blé et de 1,16 emploi hm3 pour le pois chiche blanc. De même, 1,4 h ton-1 ont été nécessaires pour le grain de blé et 4,3 h ton-1 pour le pois chiche blanc. Il est conclu que le pois chiche blanc produit à Cajeme, Sonora, a montré des indicateurs d’efficacité économique et sociale et de productivité plus élevés que ceux déterminés pour la culture du blé.
