«El libro de los pájaros negros» (2011) de Jorge Casilla fue, a principios de la década de 2010, una de las demostraciones palpables del cambio silencioso que empezaba a gestarse desde el interior de la «maquinaria». Apareció en un lento período de transición. No solo era «distinto», incluso ante las prácticas convencionales de la narrativa local (hollada por la crónica, la novela de la violencia política y los aludidos), sino que también marcaba diferencias con mucho de aquello que autores «veteranos» los nacidos durante la década de 1960 habíamos intentado desde fines de la década de 1980, bajo el aura de los fundadores Ribeyro, Loayza, Adolph, Belevan o Calderón Fajardo. Era insular, aunque también se apreciaran los tributos ineludibles a Poe, Clemente Palma o Lovecraft. Narraciones como la que le presta título al libro u otras, como «Testigo ciego», «Edificio», «Fauno» y «Soledad perdida» entre logros que reelaboran lo fantástico, lo extraño o el policial, hablan por sí solos de la versatilidad de su autor y de sus grandes capacidades para seguir navegando en estas aguas no siempre serenas. O esos dos relatos de impronta oriental, amparados en la versación sobre lo asiático, como «Harumi y el perro» o «Sol».
