Un mundo sorprendente y apenas divulgado, dado ahora a conocer con la intención de que el lector disfrute conociendo al abanico, un humilde compañero que en tantas manos se despliega y que sobre tantos pechos descansa.Este conjunto de libros pretende recoger informaciones dispersas en diferentes publicaciones antiguas de escasa o dificultosa difusión, con la intención de acercar al público interesado un resumen lo más amplio posible de los temas que se presentan. Optamos por extraer y reproducir artículos aparecidos en enciclopedias, diccionarios y otras obras desde mediados del siglo xix que son la base de nuestro trabajo de recopilación, con la incorporación de otros textos que vieron la luz en diversas publicaciones hace más de ochenta años. Tantas veces se han copiado y repetido en fragmentos desde su primera publicación, que ya parece que no los ideó nadie y que son cuestiones tan universalmente difundidas y asumidas como la salida del Sol o el olor del membrillo. 10
