Diese Studie, die im Bereich der Anthropologie der sozialen Interventionspraktiken angesiedelt ist, befasst sich mit dem Alltag der Beziehungen, die sich zwischen Personen, die gesellschaftlich damit beauftragt sind, im Interesse der Kinder zu handeln (Mitglieder eines Vereins, Sozialarbeiter, Kindergärtnerinnen), und Personen, die von dieser Aufgabe, die man sich im Namen des Kinderschutzes auferlegt, betroffen sind - in diesem Fall die Eltern und die Kinder selbst -, entwickeln. Der Rahmen, in dem die Untersuchung durchgeführt wurde, ist der eines Vereins, der auf einer Insel an der Westküste Frankreichs angesiedelt ist und sogenannte Alleinerziehende vom 'Festland' aufnimmt, deren Kinder von der Aide Sociale à l’Enfance (Kinderfürsorge) betreut werden. Da zu der Besonderheit einer Familienaufnahme in einer Einrichtung noch die Insellage als topografisches Merkmal des Wohnorts hinzukommt, hinterfragt die Studie die Beständigkeit alter Betreiber in den Logiken der Sozialhilfe und des Sozialschutzes.
