O BiFeO3 é um dos materiais multiferróicos mais promissores, uma vez que pode exibir tanto ferroelectricidade como antiferromagnetismo à temperatura ambiente. Para além disso, sabe-se que o BFO tem um 'band-gap' óptico na gama de 2,5 - 3,2 eV. Isto torna-o um material importante para futuras aplicações em dispositivos optoelectrónicos. Nesta abordagem, filmes finos de BFO puro e dopado com Ni foram depositados com sucesso em substrato FTO usando o sistema de pirólise por pulverização. As propriedades estruturais, morfológicas e ópticas das películas foram bem discutidas. A estrutura das películas foi confirmada com o padrão XRD e observou-se que ambas as amostras são de natureza policristalina e os picos de difracção observados estão indexados à estrutura romboédrica com grupo espacial R3c. A dopagem com Ni foi considerada desejável porque reduz o intervalo de banda óptica e, portanto, pode ser usada com muito sucesso para muitas aplicações optoelectrónicas e magneto-ópticas.
