Il conflitto tra uomo e fauna selvatica è un fenomeno che interessa un’ampia fascia della popolazione mondiale. Soprattutto quelli che vivono nelle comunità rurali africane. Gli abitanti del Mara sono un buon esempio di comunità africana, rurale, economicamente non benestante e che vive vicino alla fauna selvatica. Tra i maggiori problemi che il Mara deve affrontare c’è il conflitto tra uomo e fauna selvatica che, nonostante i precedenti tentativi di mitigarlo, continua a persistere. Uno dei motivi per cui questa piaga persiste è che le norme e i regolamenti sono troppo ampi e non tengono conto delle differenze all’interno delle comunità che vivono in prossimità delle popolazioni di animali selvatici. Questa ricerca ha individuato la principale differenza in queste comunità nel genere e si concentra su di essa. Gli obiettivi di questa ricerca sono esaminare le dinamiche di genere che influenzano i conflitti tra uomo e fauna selvatica, esaminare come le dinamiche di genere possano essere utilizzate nella conservazione della fauna selvatica e creare strategie di conservazione a partire dalla valutazione delle dinamiche di genere rilevanti per i conflitti tra uomo e fauna selvatica.
