A Região Amazônica é rica em termos de biodiversidade, seja ela vegetal ou animal. Sendo assim, saber administrar esta diversidade biológica é fundamental para o sustento da mesma. Nesta região, está localizado o município de Igarapé-Açu no nordeste paraense, alvo de estudo deste trabalho. Segundo o Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), o município possui extensão territorial de 786 km² e conta com uma população de 35.887 mil habitantes onde 63,82% residem na zona urbana, de acordo com o censo de 2010. Neste contexto, objetivou-se realizar um diagnóstico socioambiental do município de Igarapé-Açu, destacando os aspectos fisiográficos da área de estudo do município supracitado, dentre eles: clima, vegetação, solos, hidrografia, geomorfologia, geologia, biodiversidade, além de estabelecer a relação socioeconômica do local de estudo. Ainda, identificar problemas ambientais da região e sugerir possíveis propostas que favoreçam melhorias de cunho socioambiental.
